Children who are not speaking or are difficult to understand in comparison to their peers may have a speech sound disorder such as apraxia of speech, a phonological disorder, or an articulation disorder.  And very young children who are not speaking nor using as many words as they should are at a disadvantage for many areas of development.  These children require intervention with a licensed, experienced speech-language pathologist to overcome these obstacles.
